How to cancel Xbox Game Pass
The steps depend on WHERE you subscribed — directly, through your phone, internet or TV provider, or in an app store. Below are all the ways this service is sold and how to end each one.
Canceling
Game Pass renews automatically until you cancel. To stop being charged, cancel in your Microsoft account (account.microsoft.com/services) or on your Xbox console before the next billing date.
Monthly
Cancel any time to stop future charges.
Promotions
Offers such as 14 days for $1 may be for new subscribers only.
Before the billing date
Microsoft says to cancel before the next billing date to stop being charged.
On an Xbox console
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & system → Settings → Account → Subscriptions.
- Choose Game Pass, select Cancel subscription and follow the steps.
If you’re eligible for a refund, you may be prompted to start one.
On the web (phone or computer)
- Go to Subscriptions in your Microsoft account and sign in with the account you used to buy Game Pass.
- Find the subscription and select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.
If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown — you won’t be charged after it and can keep playing until then.
What happens after you cancel
Turning off recurring billing stops future charges, and you keep Game Pass benefits until the expiration date. Some subscriptions can be canceled immediately with a refund, but not every charge is refundable.
If someone else pays
- If you pay for another person’s Game Pass, the owner of that Microsoft account has to sign in and cancel.
- If a third party bills you, contact them about canceling and refunds.
Price changes
Microsoft says it tells you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect, so you can cancel before the new price applies.
