How to cancel HBO Max
The steps depend on WHERE you subscribed — directly, through your phone, internet or TV provider, or in an app store. Below are all the ways this service is sold and how to end each one.
Canceling
Where you cancel depends on who bills you. If you subscribed on HBO Max directly, you cancel in your HBO Max account; if an app store, a TV provider or another partner bills you, you cancel there.
Billed by HBO Max
Cancel in your HBO Max account settings. A yearly plan is paid up front, so check the terms before you buy it.
Billed by someone else
If Apple, Google Play, Amazon or a TV or internet provider bills you, cancel with them.
Deleting the app isn’t canceling
Payments continue until you cancel where you’re billed.
Step 1: find who bills you
- Web: go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in.
- Phone, tablet or computer: in HBO Max, choose your profile, then Subscription.
- TV: in HBO Max, choose the Settings icon, then Subscription.
The company that bills you is shown at the top of the screen. You can also check your bank statement or ask your internet, mobile or TV provider.
Step 2: if HBO Max bills you directly
- Go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in.
- Choose Cancel Your Subscription.
- Confirm, and note your expiration date.
You can keep streaming until the subscription expires at the end of the billing period. No cancel option? Someone else bills you — cancel with them (Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, Samsung or your internet, mobile or TV provider).
Extra Member Add-On
The add-on is canceled when your base plan expires, and HBO Max refunds the remaining days on the add-on on a prorated basis.
Things to know
- HBO Max renews automatically until you cancel.
- Deleting the app doesn’t cancel your subscription.
- Cancel before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
