How to cancel Google One
The steps depend on WHERE you subscribed — directly, through your phone, internet or TV provider, or in an app store. Below are all the ways this service is sold and how to end each one.
Canceling
Google says you can cancel any time and that you stay enrolled unless you choose to cancel. If you subscribed through Google Play, manage it in Google Play subscriptions.
Monthly or yearly
Cancel anytime; yearly billing saves up to 16% according to Google.
Google Play
Subscriptions on Google Play run until you unsubscribe.
Check your space first
If you go back to 15 GB and use more, uploads stop and Gmail can be affected.
On a computer
- Go to Google One.
- Click Settings → Cancel membership.
- Click Cancel membership again to confirm.
You should get a confirmation that the subscription is canceled. Google’s help page also has steps for the Android and iPhone apps.
Don’t want to lose everything? You can downgrade to a smaller plan instead of canceling.
Bought through the App Store, Google Play or Pixel Pass?
- App Store: manage the membership from the App Store; refunds go through Apple support.
- Google Play: Google Play’s refund policies apply.
- Pixel Pass: its 200 GB membership ends only if you cancel Pixel Pass.
What happens when you cancel
- Payments stop, and you keep your storage and benefits until the end of the billing cycle.
- You and your family members go back to the free 15 GB each.
- Premium subscriptions included with your plan — such as Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium or YouTube Premium — end too.
If you’re over 15 GB after that:
- Gmail: you can’t send or receive messages; mail sent to you is returned.
- Google Drive: you can’t sync, upload or create new files, and no one can edit or copy your files until you free up space.
- Google Photos: backups stop.
Refunds
Google says that in most countries, storage plan purchases are non-refundable — the storage is yours until the end of the period.
